The Super Bowl betting line is heating up, but in the meantime the guys that will figure into future betting tips were hammering away in the Under Armour 2010 College Senior Bowl.
Easily the biggest disappointment at this year’s Senior Bowl was former Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow. Oh how the mighty have fallen, and Tebow has fallen hard. What was once a possible first round pick has dropped as far as the fifth round to some experts. Tebow has shown that while he has the makings of a great leader, he does not have the physical tools to be an NFL quarterback. He is not mobile, he does not make great decisions and his arm is suspect.
The Senior Bowl is never about who wins, it is about who shows up to play. One of the players who came to play was Cincinnati receiver Mardy Gilyard. Gilyard has racked up two consecutive 1000+ yard seasons in college, and he looks to be a good pro next season. He helped to solidify his standing as a top receiver prospect.
On defense Georgia stand-out Geno Atkins showed that he has the physical and mental tools to terrorize QBs at the NFL level. He picked up a sack in the game, and Tim Tebow was probably very happy to have Atkins on his side for once.
The Senior Bowl is a chance for players to show NFL scouts and coaches what they can do. Guys like free safety Taylor Mays who had an interception and linebacker Sean Witherspoon who also had a pick and broke up a pass probably did some good for their cause. They showed potential and gave scouts some good reason to move them up on their draft boards. Players like Tebow and Oklahoma State QB Zac Robinson who also fumbled twice probably wished they had stayed at home.
