Hurricanes take aim at BCS Title

A Crimson Tide swept through the SEC last season, unrelenting until a kiss from the Rose Bowl that crowned Alabama national champions in 2009-10.

This off-season the tide may be changing, beginning in Miami where the Hurricanes are maturing into a team that many observers across the nation consider ready to start challenging for championships.

“The U” dominated sports betting non-conference regular season play last season, finishing undefeated against opponents outside the ACC, including wins over Oklahoma and Georgia Tech early in the season. Head coach Randy Shannon accomplished that feat with a young team, including starting quarterback Jacory Harris and linebacker Sean Spence, who both return as juniors.

Miami has improved every season under Shannon, from five total wins in 2007 to nine in 2009. That trend is likely to continue in the upcoming campaign.

Alabama has lost three starters in its secondary, massive defensive tackle Terrence Cody, and linebacker Rolando McClain, who is certain to be selected in the first round of this year’s NFL draft. The Crimson Tide’s Rose Bowl opponent Texas loses its starting quarterback Colt McCoy, as well as defenders Earl Thomas and Sergio Kindle who are also likely to be selected in the opening round of the draft. Florida’s winning tandem of Urban Meyer and Tim Tebow is no longer with Tebow heading to the NFL and Meyer’s health a concern.

There has been a lot of movement at the top this off-season in the NCAA.

That momentum should be enough to help spark the Hurricanes into a national title contender.

College Football Betting – How The College Bowl System Works

While the sports betting players that can’t stand the college bowl system continue to complain that they want a playoff, the fact of the matter is that the BCS has no intentions of changing its current format, so the Betonline players might as well make themselves familiar with how it works. There is no exact science to the format for the system, however there are certain pieces that will always be part of the way in which the bowl games are listed.

The one NCAA football bowl game for which there is an exact science is the BCS Championship or national title game, which will always pin the top-two ranked teams in the BCS rankings against one another to allow the chance for the winner to be called the national champion. While the SEC has maintained its dominance in the BCS Championship for six straight years, the conference champions from the SEC would end up in the Sugar Bowl if not in the national title game, where it would play another top opponent according to the BCS rankings. The Rose Bowl features the PAC-12 champion against the Big Ten champion if both are available to play, and if one of the two isn’t they would then again turn to the BCS rankings. The ACC champion plays in the Orange Bowl if ineligible for the BCS Championship, just like the Big 12 champion will play in the Fiesta Bowl if available. The list goes on with possible listings for each bowl game with a certain criteria for all games, and considering that the current bowl system won’t be changing in the near future, it’s a good idea to read it.

NCAA Football Betting – Strength Of Schedule Should Be Considered Before Making Your Picks

Fans of Toronto FC don’t have to worry about a system such as the Bowl Championship Series in college football, as there are a number of factors that goes into the BCS that has angered many fans, experts and betting players alike to the point that a playoff system is gaining traction. However, until then the BCS’s complicated system is how the national champion will be decided and strength of schedule is a major factor in this.

Strength of schedule is also something that can be used by those that work with bookie software as it is a good indicator of how strong a team is. All you have to do is look at the recent example of Boise State to the importance of strength of schedule in college football. The Broncos annually lose one game a year, but due to playing in what is called a “weak” conference, they usually get the short end of the stick when it comes to BCS bowls, while a team like Alabama from the SEC can lose a game and still make it to the title game (against the team they lost to at home, but that is for another day).

There are various sites that have the strength of schedule rankings done for you, so you can take that into account. You have to look at the opposition of a team before you can truly evaluate their chances at sports betting sites.

Expect Florida, Texas to Meet for BCS Title

After Texas Nebraska betting and the big Florida/Alabama game, we’ll know the BCS title game matchup and all the other bowl games. Don’t be surprised at all if we see Tim Tebow’s Florida Gators battle Colt McCoy’s Texas Longhorns for all the marbles.

No. 1 Florida obviously has the tougher draw for a conference title game, as it gets the No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide in what many feel is the “true” national championship match. The road won’t be easy but Florida should triumph. Alabama needs running back and Heisman candidate Mark Ingram to excel if it wants a chance and, if last week’s flop (16 carries, 30 yards) against Auburn is any indication, he may not have what it takes to overcome the Gators’ top-ranked defense. Brandon Spikes may contain Ingram, forcing Alabama to rely on Greg McIlroy. He’s not a great beat to light up the Gators whereas Tim Tebow can overcome the Crimson Tide’s ballhawk defense.

No. 3 Texas gets a much more reasonable Northbet path to the BCS championship game, drawing Nebraska for the Big-12 championship. The Cornhuskers are a developing team but they’re young and their starters haven’t experienced a game of this magnitude before. Colt McCoy is a winner – the winningest quarterback in NCAA history – and he’s ready to give his team as shot at the national title.

We’re almost guaranteed a good matchup in the BCS title game and, if you like to make football picks, be prepared to bet on Florida vs Texas.

College Football Odds – Big East Crowded From Top To Bottom

Bet Online football odds have the Big East as a mess a year before TCU comes to the conference, and you could argue that any team has a chance to win it. The teams are rated from +250 to +1800, and it’s going to be a wild year for a conference that gets more attention for their hoops.

West Virginia and South Florida are the sports betting co-favorites at +250, while Pittsburgh is next at +300 and Cincinnati isn’t far behind at +500. The Mountaineers are the team to watch because of new head coach Dana Holgorsen, who was behind Oklahoma State’s high-powered attack last year (he was also at Houston and Texas Tech). Louisville is intriguing at +500, while the bottom of the conference are also in the running with Rutgers at +1200, Syracuse at +1300 and Connecticut at +1800, one year after winning the conference. However, coach Randy Edsall headed to Maryland, so the program should lose some momentum.

All eyes will be on the Mountaineers and Bulls at the top of the conference, but if you want o make a splash, take Louisville for a little value. They may have the best defense in the conference and that goes a long way, and running back Victor Anderson looks as healthy as he did as a freshman, when he won the Big East newcomer of the year. The Big East won’t put a team in the BCS title game, but it’ll be a thrilling race to the end. Bet On Louisville in your online sports book.
